SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER OF THE YEAR C

THEME: The promise of Christ

Beloved, Jesus has overcome the power of death. And since then he has not ceased to reveal himself to his disciples in order to strengthen their faith. He accomplished his earthly mission. Now he wants to return to the Father, where he was from all eternity. But he knows that his disciples will face difficulties. In order that they should not go astray and not give up the new life he has gained for them at the price of his blood, he promises to them continual assistance: that of the Holy Spirit. Jesus calls him: the Defender! He will guide and counsel his disciples. He will guide them in the mysteries of the Word of God so that they can continue his mission. But there is a condition to receive this promise: to love Jesus and to keep his word. It is only in that way that he, Jesus, and his Father will make of the heart of such a person their dwelling place but also and above all that their bond of love, the Holy Spirit, will remain in that person and guide his steps. We clearly see this Defender working in the lives of the apostles of the Lord through the first reading. They do not allow themselves be guided by their human vision but they asked for the light of the Holy Spirit. He inspired them so much that the decision they took, brought peace and joy to the hearts of the people of Antioch. It is therefore obvious that if we dispose ourselves to receive the promise of Christ, still being attached to his word, then all our actions will be guided and inspired by the Holy Spirit. And if that's the case, then we'll be happy. So, our heart will not be frightened or worried, whatever the situation in which we find ourselves. Beloved, are you willing to receive the promise of Christ?

Beloved, if today you hear the voice of Christ inviting you to hold on to His word and to accept His promise, do harden not your heart. Amen

THEME : La promesse du Christ

Bien-aimé(e)s, Jésus a vaincu le pouvoir de la mort. Et depuis lors il ne cesse pas de se manifester à ses disciples afin d’affermir leur foi. Il a accompli sa mission terrestre. Maintenant il veut retourner auprès du Père, là où il était de toute éternité. Mais il sait que ses disciples seront bien confrontés à des difficultés. Alors pour qu’ils ne se perdent point et qu’ils n’abandonnent pas la vie nouvelle qu’il a acquis pour eux au prix de son sang, il leur promet une assistance continuelle : celle de l’Esprit Saint. Jésus le nomme : le Défenseur ! Il sera le guide et l’avocat de ses disciples. Il les guidera dans les mystères de la parole de Dieu afin qu’ils puissent continuer la mission du Christ. Mais il y a une condition pour recevoir cette promesse : aimer Jésus et garder sa parole. C’est ainsi que non seulement lui, Jésus, et son Père feront du cœur d’une telle personne leur demeure mais aussi et surtout que leur lien d’amour, le Saint Esprit, demeurera en cette personne et guidera ses pas.

On voit clairement, ce Défenseur, à l’œuvre dans la vie des apôtres du Seigneur à travers la première lecture. Ils ne se laissent pas guider par leur vision humaine mais sollicite la lumière de l’Esprit Saint. Celui-ci les inspire au point que la décision qu’ils prennent apporte la paix et la joie dans les cœurs du peuple d’Antioche. Il est donc évident que si nous nous disposons pour recevoir la promesse du Christ, en restant attachés à sa parole alors toutes nos actions seront guidées et inspirées par l’Esprit Saint. Et si tel est le cas, alors nous serons dans la joie. Ainsi donc notre cœur ne sera pas effrayé ni inquiet quelque soit la situation dans laquelle nous nous trouvons. Bien-aimé(e) es-tu disposé(e) à recevoir la promesse du Christ ?

Bien-aimé(e) si aujourd’hui tu entends la voix du Christ t’invitant à tenir ferme à sa parole pour accueillir sa promesse n’endurcis pas ton cœur. Amen
